Past Events
2024 | Mid-Autumn Festival
This year we hosted our Mid-Autumn event at the Mountain View De Anza Masonic Lodge.
With an indoors venue and beautiful park nearby the venue this year, we had some new activities this year including tug-of-war, bigger photo booth, and LED Lions.
With new sponsors, we were also able to offer free boba, pandan waffles, calligraphy, and a silent auction for a Premium Economy Round Trip ticket to and from San Francisco and Ho Chi Minh City sponsored by Vietnam Airlines on top of our regular raffle of a stuffed animal, gift cards, and orchids. We were also excited to bring back Kalipso robotics this year.
This year’s proceeds will be donated to Blue Dragon’s initiatives to remedy the impacts of the Yagi Typhoon in Vietnam.
2024 | Summer Trip
One of our co-presidents Vịt Dỗ and her family recently went on a trip to Vietnam to visit some of our past and future charity partners.
2024 | Pen Pal Project
Thank you for everyone who came to our successful event! We had fun decorating and writing letters while enjoying some delicious pastries and pizza.
We sent our letters to a class at Vinschool in Hanoi, Vietnam with students age 13-14. A special thank you to cô Linh at Vinschool for coordinating with us to make this event possible!
2023 | Mid-Autumn Festival
For the 2023 Annual Mid-Autumn Festival, we raised money for Hearts for Huế, an organization dedicated to addressing multiple different initiatives such as micro financing projects, support for those with disabilities, clean water and sanitation projects, etc. We decided to donate our funds from this year to their disability support programs, which help families with disabilities build a sustainable income and provide scholarships.
Some new activities we help this year included an expanded lantern walk, a new booth hosted by the Kalipso Robotics (FTC Robotics Team), and the traditional Vietnamese game Bầu cua cá cọp.
2022 | Mid-Autumn Festival
For this 2022 Annual Mid-Autumn Festival, we raised money for Quán Yên Vui Tân Triều once again, and we managed to raise $17,419 to support cancer patients in Vietnam. We also brought many new activities to this year’s fundraise, such as a telling of the story chị Hằng và chú Cuội (a traditional legend telling of the origins of the Mid Autumn Festival), a lion dance performance by the LionDanceME, a potluck, and various other activities including the ones we had last year.
2022 July | Quan Yen Vui Mural
During the 2022 summer, three of our board members, Tra Nguyen, Annie Tran, and Vit Do visited Vietnam for the first time since 2020. During their time there, they wanted to contribute to their local community in Hanoi; their plan was to paint a mural for Quán Yên Vui Tân Triều, a Lotus Charity Foundation restaurant for cancer patients. Over the course of a week, the three girls drafted designs, researched and acquired appropriate materials, and painted an image of a penguin swimming.
2021 | Mid-Autumn Festival
Our first ever Mid-Autumn Festival, we hosted many fun events for young Vietnamese-Americans such as balloon animals, lantern and animal mask making, and various performances such as singing and playing instruments. Attracting over 300 attendees and raising a total of $24,700, we sent our donations back to Vietnam through VietBay to distribute to underprivileged families and overwhelmed medical staff, which supplied 2,745 food packages for people who are in lock-down (each $9 food package would help a person in Vietnam survive for 2 weeks) and 24,000 3M N95 masks for hospitals. VietBay acknowledged this event and the contribution on their official social media channel. Furthermore, on October 12, in a segment about charitable work by the overseas Vietnamese community, a Vietnamese national television channel (VTV3) interviewed our organizers aired a short documentary about our efforts.
